We went to see the annual Light Festival organized by the L.A. Dept of Water and Power, a mile-long evening walk through a display of festive holiday lights. We had never been and thought Kate was at a good age to enjoy it.

A shout-out to NY in LA. Lucy and her Moms joined us. Kate loved the lights, but was even more thrilled to be out at night. A rare occurence in her life.

"Mom, look at that! A tunnel of ALL lights!"

I like this picture because Kate is sitting like an old Korean man who's complaining about the loud holiday music.

William Mulholland, Father of the Los Angeles Aqueduct, the man who stole water from Central California, brought it to the desert, and spawned generations of Valley girls.

The Griffith Observatory.
Kate and Lucy showing each other some holiday love. While they were walking towards me, I crouched down and looked through the camera to take a picture of the two of them. For some reason I suddenly spoke to Kate and Lucy like they were my fashion models and said, "Hey guys, can you give me a hug?" I meant "me," as in the camera, but 3 year-olds that they are, they raced towards me like excited puppies to give me a bear hug. And 3 year-olds that they are, they happily gave each other a big hug, too.
"Los Angeles Department of Water and Power: Celebrating a Century of Service." The festival had a charming small town feel to it, something I thought I'd never experience in L.A.
After our DWP-sponsored stroll, we ate dinner at a nice, candlelit restaurant in Los Feliz, where our rowdy table of six probably ruined the evenings of all the couples sitting around us. Nothing like two cackling 3-year olds to kill the romance ("birth control," Hilary called it). Kate enjoyed sharing our dover sole and angel hair pasta ("We can put it on our heads!") and having a lovely night out on the town with her best buddy, Lucy.
